Here are a few mods that I have done on my 1/6 Hetzer.

The barrel is already removable in the stock design, but not so easily.
I usually dont put screw on the servo arm so that the barrel can be removed quickly.

As for the metal wheel inserts, this year we started shipping metal inserts with the new kits.
But they are custom made and considerably more expensive than your solution.
I was also looking for something like you used but i was unable find anything like this.

I will definitely try your solution in the near future.
